DBT: Practical Life Skills Reinforced through Music Therapy

Welcome

to DBT: Practical Life Skills Reinforced through Music Therapy with Deborah Spiegel and Lindsey Landeck.  We will share, and you will create, music therapy interventions to teach and reinforce Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills for distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, core mindfulness.

Prerequisite

Be sure you have a copy of the first edition of the DBT Skills Training Manual and read it.  The second edition is fine too, but this class only covers the original skills in the first edition.  The rest are covered in later classes.

Assignment

  • As you go through the videos, put your comments, thoughts, and questions in the comment section below each video. Be sure to leave your take-aways at the end.
  • As you complete each module, please post an intervention that could teach a skill in that module in the class forum. There is a link at the end of each module.

To do right now

The first thing to do right now is to log into the forum and introduce yourself. In all, you will post an intervention you create around a specific skill in each of the modules: for mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Then you will share a fallback activity and define which skills you can use it for.

Also, if you want a copy of my book Creative DBT Activities Using Music: Interventions for Enhancing Effectiveness and Engagement in Therapy, you can click to get it here.

Enjoy !!!
